Questions
Is it free?
Yes. Playing is free during early access, and you do not need an account.
Who is it for?
Adults with an intermediate level of English (around B1–B2) who need academic vocabulary, for example for university study, IELTS or TOEFL preparation. It is not designed for complete beginners yet.
Can I choose IELTS or TOEFL words?
When you start, you tell us what you are preparing for, and you can change it any time in Settings. The first pack is written for IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, the Duolingo English Test and studying in English. There is no IELTS General Training pack yet.
Is this an official exam word list?
No. We choose words from open research word lists and write our own explanations. The pack suits exam preparation, but it is not an official list and we do not promise a score.
How do the games work?
There are twenty short games. You start with Word Tower, which shows a word and four meanings: tap the right one and your tower grows a floor. Word Bridge shows a sentence with a word missing: type it and you lay a stone. The other games open as you meet more words, and words you miss come back later.
How do you know I really remember a word?
We only count it when you get it right without hints. A week or more after you last saw a word, we ask you to write it from memory. If you can, it shows as "Kept for 7+ days".
Is there a timer?
Most games have no timer, so you can take your time. Word Sprint is timed, with an optional Relaxed mode that removes the timer. A round usually takes a minute or two.
Do I need to download anything?
No. It runs in your phone or computer browser. Your progress is saved automatically; sign in with Google to continue on another device.
What data do you keep?
Your learning records, the stars and notes you add to words, and basic usage events, linked to a random ID. If you sign in with Google we also keep your email and name. We never record your voice, and you can download or delete everything in Settings.
